Sue Thomson

In Episode 11 of From A to Me Melbourne-based filmmaker Sue Thomson discusses her film career, the privilege of being entrusted with her subject’s stories and the important role art can play in bringing about change.

After a career in theatre directing, Sue entered the film and television industry. With mainly self-taught skills and with a passion for documentary filmmaking, Sue has made a number of films including ‘The Coming Back Out Ball’ which was selected to close Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2018. That film received local and international critical acclaim and after a theatrical run at cinemas, it has been selected to play at Mardi Gras and other international festivals in 2019.

Sue reflects on her passion to continue make projects with an emphasis on social justice, acknowledging that having “access to art, of sharing knowledge, of bringing people in – it really can affect change” in order to make “the world a better place”.
